whispering flight

february 6 - 28, 2026

Whispering Flight, after / time gallery’s inaugural exhibition of 2026, features painting, drawing, and sculpture by five local and national artists. Diverse in medium and message, each artwork, through its quiet elegance and simplicity, offers a gentle invitation into its poignant narrative. Am I Fitting In? by Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist Lulu Luyao Chang captures a tenderness that is fraught with dichotomous complexity, while Ruth Meijer’s Late Arrival, based on a specific personal moment in time, awakens for each viewer a memory, a reality, a precious world of their own. In Between III by Grace Dunbar, whose work draws upon whimsy and ephemera influenced by mythological themes and turn-of-the-millennium nostalgia, inhabits a unique intersection of organic mark-making styles recollective of Paleolithic masterpieces found in the Lascaux caves as well as traditional guohua

Whispering Flight also marks the collaborative-curatorial debut of Maria Jean and Catherine Ulrich, newly appointed gallery directors at the vanguard of contemporary fine art in Portland. The exhibition illustrates beautifully the confluence of Maria’s interest in fine-artistic design and Catherine’s faculty for unearthing and identifying aesthetic talent that communicates and moves.
