uncertainty surrounds the holding of things

november 14 - december 21, 2025

In a shifting material landscape, this exhibition invites viewers to consider the lives of objects - the ways they persist, transform, and resist being fixed within constructs of time, narrative, or value. Through a constellation of artistic voices engaging with themes of permanence and decay, Uncertainty Surrounds the Holding of Things, explores the reinvention and ambiguity of matter.

Set against a backdrop of ecological instability and cultural unrest, this exhibition foregrounds the vitality of materials themselves. Here, objects are not passive or inert, but active participants capable of movement, resistance, and change. The act of making thus becomes a perceptual gesture: a reconfiguration of everyday or discarded materials to open new modes of seeing, knowing, and relating beyond utility or consumption.

These works reflect an acute sensitivity to material histories, labor, and the tension between fragility and resilience. Rather than presenting a static archive, the exhibition unfolds as a choreography of matter, time, and imagination. Drawing on philosophies of vibrant materialism and “thingness,” these works blur the line between subject and object, inviting viewers into a space of attunement, where materials speak and meaning emerges through encounter.

This exhibition ultimately asks, “What responsibilities do we bear toward the objects in our lives? What stories, and silences, do they carry? What happens when we recognize the agency of things, their refusal to remain still or be easily known?” In escaping expectations, these works open a space for reflection on the material conditions that shape our world, and the ways in which objects continue to act upon it, and us.
